This is a view of the nosecone of the Awakening Altered. It features an airbrushed
vision of the angel Michael and is accompanied by the text from Revelation 12:7,
"And war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon."
Ipswich, Queensland - the community in which we are based - has often been referred to as "drag city". There are some beautiful street cars getting around Ipswich. There is a number of different types of car clubs as well as many "lappers". Ipswich is proud of its motor precinct of which the main feature is its world-class drag strip, Willowbank Raceway.
We see the work being done through the Awakening Altered as primarily 'pre-evangelism', of meeting people where they are at. We call it the "Christmas principle" in that Jesus Christ left his home and came to earth as a baby, as a human to meet us where we are at.
It is our belief that in this world, the church must look at new ways to do ministry, to get out from behind the four walls and meet people where they are at. Jesus brought healing and wholeness to the many with whom he rubbed shoulders. We believe that the same can be done through the work of Supa-Rev Racing. If the people of Ipswich are more interested in going to the drags on Saturday night or a car show over the weekend than going to worship, then that is where the church has to meet them.
We make the church available to people through our presence at Willowbank Raceway; membership in
RFC
(Racers for Christ), Quarterzone Drag Racing Club and Christian Rod and Custom; public displays such as car shows and the Ipswich Awakening Easter
Monday Fun Day; doing presentations at church outreach services, men's breakfasts, youth groups
and religious education seminars at high schools.
